Byôsoku 5 Centimeter

Submitted by admin on Friday, 15 August 2008No Comment

Byôsoku 5 Centimeter (5 Centimeters Per Second), is a Japanese animation about distance love between young people. It is filmed by Makoto Shinkai and first put on show in 2007.
The title of the film comes from the speed at which Ōkashō (cherry blossoms) petals fall. The petals are a metaphorical representation of humans, reminiscent of the slowness of life and how people often start together but slowly drift into their separate ways. It gives a realistic view of the struggles many face against: time, space, people, and love.
There are 3 Episodes in the film. The pace of the film is quite slow, filled with soliloquy of the hero or heroine in it. But, I think it present to some extent the perspective in traditional Japanese esthetics.
