When preparing Chinese New Year food, it’s important to keep following symbols in mind. Some food are the most key foods during festive period as they have good symbolic meanings.

1. Chicken
Chicken symbolizes happiness and prosperity, so it makes an excellent ingredient for your Chinese New Year meal.

2. Tangerines
As Tangerines are China’s most plentiful fruit, food prepared with Tangerines symbolizes wealth and good fortune.

3. Noodles
Noodles symbolize longevity. Make sure not to cut them!

4. Eggs
Eggs symbolize fertility. It’s easy to incorporate eggs into the Chinese New Year menu.

5. Fish
Fish plays a especially important role in Chinese New Year meals. It is particularly unlackable in the dinner on the last day of the year, which is called as Chu Xi Ye. Fish refers to remain, rest, which indicate “may every year ends with ample surplus”.
