Class Enemy

There are strong calls for tough knife laws recently, after teen death from the public mass after the tragic that several teenagers were been stabbed to death on the streets in different UK cities.
Teenage problems are attracting increasing attention from more and more people nowadays.
I’ve just watched a very good opera concerning teenagers performed in Bosnian with English supertitles in the Royal Lyceum Theatre.
It’s called as Class Enemy. It’s based on Nigel Williams’s play set in South London in 1978. The plot is about a group of foul-mouthed high school students in a rundown schoolroom. They are abandoned by their parents, social workers as well as the society in general. They are underprivileged but gifted. They are eager to be reognised, acknowledged, confronte and taught about life. They conduct their own lessons in the isolated classroom as they await teachers who never arrive. Chairs fly, emotions run high and violence erupts as the pupils burst with adolescent energy, humor and vulnerability. We can witness the dramatic and poignant life stories of a group of seven teenagers. There is a bleak picture of their family life, local politics and terror.
I think watching this opera may bring us some new deep thoughts. It helps us to gain a new perspective in analyzing teenage problems in the modern society.
