Dreams and Glory
Sometimes, I really doubt that the guide in modern Olympics has deviated too far away from the original intention of Olympics.
Now, Olympics are more like an industry and people focus too much on the result of the competition. Rich countries could equip their teams with the best aero-dynamic clothes, the best suitable shoes and other equipment. Wealthy athletes even hire personal dieticians.
It’s no more just the competition of human beings, but the competition of technology as well as living standard of different nations. It’s all about winning, all about the medals. We compete only for the purpose of competing but forgot other important things.
But, occasionally, if luckily, we can still sense some moving moments and it’s nothing about the medals at all.
When the Iraq athletes pass the finishing line in the rowing competition and women dash competition, and when I heard their stories, I’m greatly touched.
They did not win. They didn’t achieve any medals. Actually they didn’t have the opportunity to get proper training due to the war and they didn’t even have competition uniforms or well prepared shoes. However, they did as heroes! They defeated so many foes to be in the game; they fought as hard and bravely as they could; and they own many people’s respect.
Let’s salute to these people.
From them, we see dreams and glory; from them, we see never fading spark inside human natures. To me, that’s what Olympics should be all about.
