Kit Kittredge: An American Girl

The 2008 American comedy-drama film was directed by Patricia Rozema, starring Abigail Breslin, Julia Ormond and Chris O’Donnell.
The story is set at the height of great depression. Bright, inquisitive and generous, Kit is a natural born leader. However, her happy childhood is abruptly interrupted when her father loses his care dealership and must leave to Cincinnati to look for work. Kit and her mother Margaret are left to manage on their own, growing vegetables, selling eggs and even taking an assortment of boarders. However, even during the most desperate time of recession, with increasing amount of people beginning to lose hope and even star committing crime to make a living, there are still many people who manage to keep their dignity and faith. There is still love.
