North Berwick

Submitted by admin on Sunday, 24 August 2008No Comment

My parents just paid a visit in the little town of North Berwick, the pretty seaside town in East Lothian. I’m planning to make it the very last place for them to visit during their staying in the UK. The good news is that they were so luck that they came across really nice weather as well as the Mill Field Festival held in the town. I’m really happy that they had great time.
The name North Berwick means North ‘barley farmstead’. Bere in Old English means ‘barley’ and wic in Old English is ‘farmstead’. The word North was applied to distinguish this Berwick from Berwick-upon-Tweed. It was recorded as Northberwyk in 1250.
The town of North Berwick situates approximately 25 miles east of Edinburgh on the south shore of the Firth of Forth. Because of its two sandy bays, the town became a fashionable holiday resort in the 19th century. It continues to attract holiday makers till today.
