Pneumonoultramicroscopicsilicovolcanoconiosis

Submitted by admin on Tuesday, 9 June 2009No Comment

According to Oxford English Dictionary, with 45 letters in all, the word of Pneumonoultramicroscopicsilicovolcanoconiosis is currently the longest English word. It is a factitious word alleged to mean ‘a lung disease caused by the inhalation of very fine silica dust, causing inflammation in the lungs’.
Here is a trip to remember the word within two minutes. Does it sounds like mission impossible? It is actually possible.
Cut the long world into small parts which can be easily remember, and form meaningless but funny sentence.
Here is an example, pnew (sounds the same of “new”) + mon (short for “monkey”) + oul (similar to “out”) + tra (short for “train”) + microscop + I + c + silico + volcano + co (sounds similar to “call”) + ni (“you” in Chinese) + o + sis (short for “sister”).
Remember the stupid sentences formed by the words: new monkey out (by) train (with) microscop; I c silico (and) volcano; call ni o sis.
Now, try to recite the word. Could you succed now?
