Pulteney Bridge

Submitted by admin on Tuesday, 3 March 2009No Comment

Pulteney Bridge is a beautiful bridge that crosses the River Avon, in Bath, UK. It connect central Bath to land on the other bank of the River Avon and make Pulteney’s fortune.
The bridge was designed by Robert Adam and built in 1773. It is named after Frances Pulteney, heiress in 1767 of the Bathwick estate across the river from Bath. It is one of only four historical bridges in the world with shops across the full span on both sides. Shops on the bridge include a flower shop, antique map shop, and even a juice bar. The bridge is designated by English Heritage as a grade I listed building.
Despite the practical origins Pulteney Bridge is surely one of the most romantic bridges in the world, best viewed from Parade Gardens park by the crescent weir.
