Submitted by admin on Saturday, 31 January 2009No Comment

The seventh day of the Chinese New Year, which is traditionally known as “renri”, literally refers to “the date of man”. It is said to be the day when human beings were created. It is the common man’s birthday, the day when everyone grows one year older. This festive is celebrated not only in China, but also in other areas influenced by Chinese culture.
On this day, it is a custom primarily among the overseas Chinese in Southeast Asia, such as Malaysia and Singapore, to tossed raw fish salad is eaten. For a lot of Chinese Buddhists, it is another day to avoid meat. People get together to toss the colourful salad and wishes for continued wealth and prosperity.
Chinese people prepare lucky food—”Seven-vegetable soup” or “Seven-vegetable congee” on this day. Seven vegetables include white turnip ternip, Brassica capitata, Choi Sum, Brassica juncea, Coriandrum sativum, garlic and celery.
