The Fifth Commandment

Submitted by admin on Friday, 23 January 2009No Comment

The 2008 action movie was directed by Jesse V. Johnson, with Rick Yune, Keith David, and Bokeem Woodbine.
It tells the story about an assassin in Bangkok, who turns down a job when he finds it hitting too close to home. However, as a result of this, he later finds himself targeted by a lot of elite members of his profession.
The name of the film comes from ”The Ten Commandment”. The fifth commandment in the Roman Catholic version refers to “thou shall not kill.” (It’s the sixth commandment in Jewish, Anglican, Reformed, and other Christian, as well as Orthodox versions of “Ten Commandment”.) Considering the bloody killing scene in the movie, it seems that the title is set for irony.
The existing Chinese translation of “The Fifth Commandment” as “第五指令” is wrong, as it mistaken the meaning as “the fifth commitment”. The recommended translation should be “第五诫”.
