Vagina Dentata
Just watched the movie of Teeth, which is directed by Mitchell Lichtenstein. I found it quite a good one.
It is about Vagina dentate, which is Latin for toothed vagina. Though the plot is kinda weird, it did stimulate my interest in this topic.
The myth of vagina dentate is about women who have vagina with teeth or the toothed vagina. Stories of the vagina dentate can be found aboriginal mythology and legends in diverse cultures all over the world, as widespread as Egyptian, Native American, Greek, Indo-European and African. In these myths, stories are always similar. The hero must do battle with the women—the toothed creature and break her power.
It has its basis in ancient masculine fears of the “unknown” of sexual congress. The mystery of sexual union evokes fears castration, the loss of the penis during intercourse. Undoubtedly it relates to fears of weakness and impotence, destruction suffered during union.
