This 2008 historical thriller movie was directed by Bryan Singer, starring Tom Cruise, Kenneth Branagh and Bill Nighy.
The story is set in Nazi Germany during World War II, based on real events that happened on July 20, 1944. Some German army officers planned to assassinate Adolf Hitler and use the Operation Valkyrie national emergency plan to take control of Germany. The movie has caused great controversy among German politicians and brought great difficulty for selecting the filming location.
Besides, the release date of the movie has been changed for several times. The changing calendar and poor response to United Artists’s initial marketing campaign drew criticism about the viability of the studio. After released, the movie has received mixed reviews in the US as well as in German.
In my opinion, the movie started off as a average war movie; however, it was saved in the second half by the intense storyline and the moving ending.
